Sunday 31 October 2021 is the date when the 26th Climate Conference began in Glasgow. About 30 years ago, governments all over the world signed the climate treaty or UNFCCC (United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change). No fewer than 197 countries signed it. Since then, the United Nations has brought all these countries together for global climate summits, also known as COPs (stands for Conference of the Parties). During this event, all these countries discuss the greatest threat humanity has ever faced: the global climate crisis.

The Paris Agreement

In 2015, the 21st COP was held in Paris and is considered one of the most famous meetings in the 30-year history of climate summits. The Paris Agreement is the new international climate treaty that has set clear and specific targets to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in order to combat climate change and global warming. The main goal is actually to ensure that global warming remains well below 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels. This has many implications for our societies: we are going to have to engage in economic and social transformations to ensure that our planet remains livable. Today the Earth is already 1.1°C warmer than in pre-industrial times, which means that meeting the Paris Agreement will be very difficult. It is already predicted that by 2100 warming could reach 2.7°C if we act as we do now. As the summer of 2022 is one of the hottest ever recorded, we are definitely not on the right track.

Imby already operates CO2 neutral!

Concrete action is urgently needed. Our planet is sounding the alarm bell, just think of all the extreme weather situations of recent months and years (floods, heat waves, forest fires…). These can become irreversible, so world leaders from all over the world need to act together and quickly. At Imby, we try to keep our greenhouse gas emissions as low as possible and to off-set the remaining ones by buying carbon credits and planting trees in the Netherlands and Belgium via our partnership with Reforest’Action. In this way, we (and you) are already doing our bit for a cleaner climate. Join our movement or even better, treat your fluffy friend to one of our CO2 neutral pet food products!
